Types of Events in the University Calendar

Each event can have only one Event Type, which cannot be changed later. Choose the most appropriate classification for your event.

  • Other - a generic catch-all event, one that does not fit any other topic
  • Aggie Athletics - intercollegiate events sponsored by the Athletics Department
  • Alumni - participation or audience is primarily former students
  • Campus Wide - a generic category for public events of general interest to the entire university community.
  • Career Fair/Event - events intended to bring potential employers and employees together
  • Colloquium - an academic discussion of a specific topic, led by a lecturer
  • Community - events of interest or scope affecting the entire Bryan/College Station community
  • Conference/Symposium - a multi-session academic event with multiple speakers
  • Course - an ongoing class, whether university or otherwise
  • Deadline - point in time at which something must be completed
  • Debate - having two main speakers with opposing views
  • Diversity - events focusing on the promotion of diversity
  • Exhibit - including displays and art shows, usually without speakers.
  • Film - including public showings of motion pictures and videos
  • Holiday - primarily university holidays, but potentially including official, cultural and religious holidays
  • Information Session - including orientations for volunteers and inquirers
  • International - events focusing on or advocating international cultures or points of view
  • Lecture - a single academic speaker
  • Meeting - any business sessions of committees or organizations that aren't included in other categories
  • Memorial - commemorations and other remembrances
  • Outreach Event - events designed for prospective students
  • Panel Discussion - having multiple speakers on a single topic
  • Performances - including concerts, recitals, and theater
  • Professional Development - education or other training for staff, faculty or other third-party groups
  • Reception - including events welcoming new administrators or visiting artists
  • Recreational Sports - intramural and non-varsity club athletic events
  • Sale - including fundraisers
  • Seminar - an small academic presentation, open to the community
  • Social Event - non-academic events that generally have no strict agenda
  • Special Event - a non-routine event featuring an out-of-the-ordinary speaker/performer/host/etc.
  • Student Activity - student events open to the campus or local community
  • Tour/Open House - ranges from tours of campus to departmental invitational events
  • Workshop - including events that offer hands-on activities, unlike seminars or lectures
